Are you wondering what the difference is between various embedded camera interfaces? Do you want to learn more about the fascinating world of embedded vision?

You’ve come to the right place – here at Inelco Hunter, we’ve worked with embedded camera experts TechNexion for years – read on for more details.

Embedded Cameras

With the invention of the digital camera in the 1960s, the enhancement of imaging technology has carried on apace. Indeed, if you’ll excuse the pun, we’ve never looked back! It can be a complicated area though, so here at Inelco Hunter, we’ve adapted the helpful article from our partners at TechNexion to help you understand the different camera interfaces, and we can assist you with all your embedded vision needs.

Different camera interfaces – a summary:

  • Ethernet – a network cable that connects two devices (the camera and the host), in order to transmit data, especially over long distances
  • USB – a well-known interface that is suited to short distances of up to 2-3 metres, and a low-cost option for applications with a low bandwidth
  • MIPI – a high-speed serial interface connecting camera systems to host processers, and benefiting from low power consumption
  • FPD-Link – a good choice for multi-camera systems (and sometimes better than MIPI, due to the in-built nature of certain components)
  • GMSL – an alternative to FPD-Link (III), and originally designed for automotive applications, this is a viable option in embedded vision applications

In this increasingly busy, high-pressure world, convenience and reliability are essential – our silky-smooth STM32 fits the bill and can be despatched straight from our UK warehouse to you.
